Melted Crayon Canvas ' And Other Canvas Art Ideas!

After seeing loads of fantastic warm crayon pictures online we decided we had to make one! They're all over the web at the moment and I don't normally make things that everyones making but I couldn't resist this one!

It was so much fun to make and so easy! The outcome is incredibly effective and I love it! It's fantastic for brightening up a room (especially in kids room or nursery!) and your friends will love you forever if you give it to them as a gift!

Here's how to do your own ...

Step 1. Get yourself a canvas the size is up to you ... we used an A4 sized one for ours, but will soon be doing a bigger one!

Step 2. Crayons ... you need enough crayons to cover the w i d t h of your canvas, or at least to cover most of it. If you're not covering the wholewidth (which ours didn't) make sure you place the crayons with equal spacing either side. Of course the make of the crayons really doesn't matter but we all know which make looks best ...Glue your crayons onto the canvas using either fabric glue or a hot glue gun.

Step 3. Turn on your hair-dryer! Move it across the crayons slowly, put it on its highest heat and slowest blow if possible. It won't be long before they start melting, you can create different looks by using different settings on your hair dryer, for example; a cooler heat will melt the crayons more slowly meaning the wax that has already dripped down the canvas will set, this means that the newly melted wax layers up on top of it making a bulkier effect. A high heat and fast ' blow ' will create a more ' splashed ' look.Really you need to play around and decide what you like. I used the hottest temperatures and slowest blow.

Step 4. Keep going until your happy with the results!

When we bought our canvas for the crayon picture it was cheaper to buy a pack of four ... so we did. Which meant that we had to find other ways to use up the canvas. Heres what we did ...

Apple Tree Appliqued Cupcake Fabric:

Simply choose your fabric, cut them out to make trunk and leaf shapes and stick! Make sure you arrange the fabric into a shape/pattern you like before sticking because once you start there's no going back! (Notice the bark markings on the trunk ... made by putting glue on top of the fabric too.) Stick on some little red gems to make apples and there you have it! Isn't it pretty?

GlowingLamp:

This was made by cutting out a lamp shape from some thick cardboard and fastening systems it behind the canvas. Next get a small bulb fixture attach to either behind or place it in front of a small lamp. Of course you could play around with different pictures to cut out ... it doesn't even have to be a lamp (shock horror!).

ENJOY
